Cleaning your oven is no-ones favourite chore. Wouldn’t it be great if you could have an oven that cleans itself? Well now you can! Pyrolytic ovens have been available since 1968 however since then the technology has improved dramatically making them more efficient, effective and affordable. Here’s all you need to know about pyrolytic ovens.
What does pyrolytic mean and how does it work? Pyrolytic cleaning uses high temperatures of around five hundred degrees centigrade to burn of the grease and spills from cooking food. At the end of a pyrolytic cycle all you have to do is wipe the excess ash with a damp cloth.
How often should you clean your oven? Wiping up spills when cooking each time will mean you do not have to use this feature regularly. Most manufacturers recommend the feature to be used once or twice a month.
When is the best time to use the pyrolytic clean option? Typically the cleaning cycle lasts around 3 hours so bare this in mind when you activate this.
Does it cost a lot to run? Modern pyrolytic ovens are very energy efficient and a cycle typically costs less than an oven cleaning pack from your local supermarket. Some ovens are able to detect when the grease is gone and stop the cycle early to save energy.
